Our GRIP SLS boards are constantly evolving to ensure we’re always at the forefront of development. with over 40 years of experience. We call them World Cup Wave Boards because they’re designed to handle the best of the best at all kinds of spots around the globe. from jump-oriented side-on conditions like Pozo to down-the-line groundswell conditions like Hookipa.
The most important influence on the development was our three-time PWA Wave World Champion Victor Fernandez and the currently one of the most highly traded contenders for the PWA Wave title. Marc Paré. Not only are these two two of the best wave riders in the world. but they also have a very competitive riding style. So instead of demanding super specialized and extreme shapes. they always strive for:
Boards that are super balanced and easy to control in all conditions. without taking on a life of their own. to achieve maximum turns and jumps.Boards that are super versatile to ride and allow riding over both the front and back foot to get the most out of any wave. even when conditions change.Boards that cover a maximum wind range so you’re not forced to change boards during the heat.
Isn’t that exactly what we all expect from our waveboard? That’s exactly why Marc and Victor are our key collaborators in the development process. In fact. all of our GRIP SLS production boards are exact replicas of their best boards that they use on the PWA Tour.
The most important question you need to ask yourself now is which fin configuration best suits your personal riding style:
The GRIP 4 SLS with its quad fin configuration gives you maximum drive and grip for dedicated rail-to-rail turns. even in XXL waves.The GRIP 3 SLS has slightly better acceleration due to an extremely efficient scoop-rocker line. which is especially helpful in jump conditions. Thruster fin configuration allows for earlier tail release for slashier turns even in less than ideal conditions.Weight savings due to the following improvements:No 5 multi-setup fin boxes: this only adds unnecessary weight and water resistance and is always a compromise. as each fin configuration requires a different board shape (bottom and rail shape. outline. scoop-rocker line) to reach its full potential. This also prevents the board from becoming tail-heavy/sticky. Also. finding a setup that works well with 5 boxes is the opposite of plug & play.The mini mast track reduces weight in the critical nose area. It also reduces the risk of mispositioning the mast foot while still providing just the right length adjustment for all riding styles and sail sizes.The mini side-fin boxes offer no more adjustability. All adjustability for different riding styles and sail sizes is now only through the center fin(s) – simple and easy!Our exclusive layup. based on over 40 years of experience. was refined by DUOTONE Product Manager Dani Äberli and Implementation Specialist and QC Manager Vasin Siritho.Even the artwork has been weight optimized by keeping heavy PVC stickers to a minimum.
